Cosy Hygge Bath Soak Recipe with Sweet Orange

Hygge is a danish term for a feeling of warmth and cosiness.

It is more about a feeling that it is about things, its about being in the moment, being home, where ever that may be, and caring for yourself and others.

I recently made these little bath soaks for my aromatherapy mystery boxes. The theme was cosy HYGGE and alongside bars of lavender and pear soap, was a little bag of these comforting bath soaks.

These were so popular they sold out in just a few hours, and once they landed in people’s letterboxes they soon wanted the recipe so here it is.

The scent is sweet orange and lavender which are cosy, comforting essential oils which really nurture the soul, and bring a feeling of warmth.

Sweet orange essential oil is well known for its use in reducing symptoms of depression, lowering the heart rate during bouts of anxiety, and increasing blood flow to the skin.  While lavender essential oil is popular for it's relaxing and grounding aliments, allowing you to fully relax and unwind during a warm bath, or foot soak.

You can use mandarin instead of sweet orange, and change the flowers to suit what you have.

I included a little cloth bag for using the soak with, this allows it to seep into the warm bath water without the flower petals and buds escaping.

Ingredients:

Method:

Simply add the essential oils to the Epsom salts, stir and then add the flowers. Stir again before popping into jars or sealable bags.

This is the basic recipe for a bath soak, sometimes called a bath tea because it has flowers and buds that seep into a warm bath to provide a therapeutic and aromatic experience.

You can add a small amount of sea salt, and baking soda if you want to, and swap the flowers and oils for ones that you have on hand. Next time I make this I would add a 1/4 teaspoon of turmeric to add a cosy glow to the soaks too. If using bags for your soaks, print out little cards with the ingredients on the top, but upside down, then fold them over and staple these to the tops of the bags. They look really rustic and cute!
