This beautiful sugar scrub is a fantastic base recipe for you to swap out what you don’t have and replace it with what works for you.
I have used ingredients especially to create a glow to the skin for this sugar scrub recipe. Turmeric gives a natural glow and washes off easily in the shower or bath, it is also packed with antioxidants and very easy to find at your local store. Add more to darken the colour of the scrub, but I find just a pinch gives this scrub a bright citrus colour that people love.
Sugar is especially exfoliating and gentle for all types of skin, you don’t get the stinging that can come from salt and it leaves skin glowing and polished.
I have used tangerine and frankincense essential oils because tangerine has a deep citrus aroma and increases circulation to the skin, and frankincense brightens dull skin, this is especially good for reducing cellulite and bringing a natural glow to the skin.
Ingredients:
- 1/4 cup of white sugar
- 1 tbsp dried flowers (I used calendula)
- 2 tbsp melted coconut oil
- 1 tbsp sunflower oil in colder climates where coconut oil becomes a solid.
- 1/4 tsp turmeric spice
- 20 drops tangerine essential oil
- 6 drops frankincense essential oil
Method:
- Combine all the ingredients together, and then mix well. The coconut oil will firm up when cooled if you live in a cooler climate, this is why I add a little sunflower oil.
- To make the sugar scrub light and fluffy like the picture you will need to whip it for a few seconds with a hand-held beater. I whip mine by hand after the coconut oil starts to firm just a little, it takes just 2 minutes for hand whipping and it is perfect.
- Pop it into jars or pouches and label. You don't need to add a preservative as there isn't a water phase to this recipe. It will keep for around 3-6 months.

These fragrant whipped sugar scrubs are so popular right now, and the possibilities with this base are almost endless. I have given you a simple recipe a whipped sugar scrub with just a few easy-to-find ingredients however you can swap out the oils for ones you have ensuring you use oils that suit your climate.
I use mostly coconut oil as it firms up so the scrub isn’t a liquid. But I add a little bit of sunflower oil as we live in a cold climate and I don’t want my customer sto have to work too hard to get it out.
You can swap the essential oils out to change the scrub fragrances, I also love spearmint and frankincense with a little bit of green clay. Add mixed herbs for an earthy rustic scrub that has a lovely cooling effect on the skin.
